Overview

Canare OC hybrid camera connectors (Japanese style) are commonly used in Japan and Asian countries. It includes the same combination of SMPTE but different pinouts. Canare OC series are non-compatible with SMPTE connectors (Canare FC series). Please use SMPTE conversion cables according to your application.

About Maintenance

The connector sections to be cleaned are the key parts, including the tips and sides of ferrules, the interior walls of alignment sleeves and the interior and exterior of connector shells. Note that scratches and particles of foreign matter on the tip of the ferrule can have a disabling effect on fiber-optic transmission. The following procedures should be used when cleaning hybrid fiber-optic camera connectors.

  • For Plugs, the interior surfaces of alignment sleeves and the tips of ferrules are to be cleaned with the non-alcohol treated cleaning stick using a gentle stroking action. Canare FCFA and FCFRA enhance easy cleaning procedure for its innovative alignment sleeve and insulator detachable design.

  • For Jacks, it is important to clean both the tips and sides of the completely protruding ferrules with the cleaning stick.
  • Both the male and female connector shells tend to attract dust and metal particles, so it is important to clean both the insides and outsides using cotton gauze or similar material.

Ferrule & Enlarged View

Cladding that surrounds the core completely is as thin as a human hair. Since optical signals travel through the 10 µm diameter core, which is about 1/3 the size of cedar pollen, even dirt that cannot be seen with the naked eye can be a cause of transmission failures.

Cleaning Procedure

Canare Fiber-Optic connectors enhance easy cleaning procedure for its innovative alignment sleeve and insulator detachable design.

SMPTE ST 311/304 Japanese Style
01. Extract the alignment sleeve (adapter unit).

Insert the sleeve extraction driver (ASPT-1) into the alignment sleeve and turn the driver clockwise.Pull the driver straight out to extract the alignment sleeve unit.

Press in the adapter shaft using a coin or fingertip, then turn it 90°counterclockwise. Since the adapter shaft pops out, pull to remove it.

02. Clean the ferrule.

Apply the cleaning stick (tube side) lightly to the tip of ferrule and turn it 4 or 5 times clockwise.

03. Clean the sleeve.

Insert the cleaning stick into the alignment sleeve and move the stick 4 or 5 times back and forth.

04. Reattach the alignment sleeve unit (adapter unit).

Align the orientation of the alignment sleeve holes with the connector’s internal contact position, then press in the sleeve unit with the sleeve extraction driver until a click is felt.

Insert the adapter unit with its tab aligned with the slot in the center hole of the connector’s internal insulator, then attach the adapter unit to the connector by turning an adapter shaft 90 clockwise while pushing in it using a coin or fingertip.
